By 6.18 the intro starts to transform into a song. Then great heavy power chord guitar riff (could have done more with it). Return to some distinctive dark psychedelia. I sense more could have been made of this song. Possibly the vocal could be more assertive & confident. Listen to it again, for about the fifth time. But the lyrics fall away towards the end, as the song musically builds structure. Departs from Paul McCartney Penny Lane & Eleanor Rigby with: " DDT poisoning me changing my relativity What's it going to be". More Beatles piano playing & sound later Queen slightly prog Yes. I found the lyrics very adventurous & topical.Ĩ. Refrigerator Heaven So low, Refrigerator Heaven". Impressive lyrics " Until they discover a cure for cancer, I'm low. Slightly Beatles but different with the Spanish style rhythm. Has the later Alice vibe, Desperado, etc. Later some repetitive licks but unique sounding. The vocal quickly changes the vibe, very Alice! The song becomes a bit punk but within rock. First impression guitar has a later Bowie/Lou Reed vibe. Fripp), as shown on Pretties For You (1969), yet has its own unique voice. Buxton has absorbed various elements into his guitar playing (Hendrix. 2:16 the future style of " Be My Lover" emerges. At 0:44 the guitar starts to salvage/save the song. The build up at 1.23 is cool, as is the vocal "Easy Action". About a junkie shoe salesman! Maybe a precursor of Lou Reed's Transformer. So I had to look up the lyrics on the internet. I suppose if Paul McCartney wrote the lyrics, it would be famous. But its a freaky out song, including once you read & know the lyricsĢ. The song loses a bit of structure at the end. Alice's voice has grown into the distinctive Alice we came to know & love. Its not the psychedelic fuzz guitar of Pretties For You (1969), but I like the drums & the groove of the song, including the piano. But now onto the fourth listen of this song, it has grown on me. First impression was the lyrics were dumb that the musical guitar foundation of the 1st album, Pretties For You (1969), was gone, with more emphasis upon the lyrics. This said, I was intrigued enough to listen to it for a second & third time & fourth & fifth time, enjoying it more as I listen more. I am allowed to say, on 1st impression, Easy Action, Alice Cooper's 2nd album, might be the worst album I've ever heard? I initially guessed it was ' Shock Rock'. Elected! Hendrix vibe with the guitar ( She's So Fine) also some Eric Clapton Cream. On Mars another Beatles-Zappa freak out vibe. Levity Ball starts sound very interesting, particularly the lyrics. No Longer Umpire sounding like The Beatles & English Prog again. The lyrics, again, are ordinary, but still listenable. Living sounds great, again with good music. Again, pretty good musical harmony but the lyrics are struggling. Today Mueller sounding again like John Lennon & The Beatles, with a Zappa freak out. Swing Low Sweet Cheerio starts with great guitar playing but the song & ongoing attractive guitar playing gradually gets consumed by struggling lyrics & vocals and clichéd harmonica. At times, Alice's vocal sounds like The Beatles (such as on 10 Minutes Before the Worm). To me, its far better than Supertramp's unbearable debt album I listened to for the 1st time last night while walking alone down a dark bush road. Its very listenable, the music & guitar playing is quite good, although the lyrics are often a bit lost. Maybe fans of Psychedelic rock dig it, but if you're looking for an album sounding like traditional AC, look elsewhere.Ĭlick to expand.I just finished listening to it for the 1st time (while working) & now started listening to it again (work ends soon). This is a weird album, doesnt sound like any other Alice album that would come later. Changing Arranging-Starts as a dirge before getting more upbeat. Earwigs to Eternity-Another weird psychedelic track.ġ3. Apple Bush-Kind of has a folky feel, not bad at all.ġ2. Reflected-This would later be re-worked into Elected, though it's much slower and less upbeat.ġ1. BB on Mars-Another song which defies description.ġ0. Levity Ball-This was apparently influenced by Syd Barret era Pink Floyd, and it kind of shows.ĩ. No Longer Umpire-This has kind of a Zappa feel, appropriately enough since he helped produce this.Ĩ. Fields of Regret-Has kind of a proto-metal sound with its darker sound. Living-Fuzzy sound aside, this is a pleasant song with good Beatles-style harmonies.Ħ. Today Mueller-Not sure what to think of this one, doesnt overstay its welcome though.ĥ. Swing Low Sweet Cheerio-A bit more straightforward here musically, good guitar playing and more melodic than the previous track.Ĥ. 10 Minutes Before the Worm-Psychedelic rock, Alice's voice is unrecognizable here.ģ.
